Quarantine, health passes and flight cancellation: the demands of senators before the Omicron variant
PT and PRI presented points of agreement for the authorities to apply sanitary filters from the airports of Mexico in order to stop the arrival of the new African variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus
Faced with the identification of a new variant of COVID-19 from some countries on the African continent, members of the Mexican Senate came together to propose a series of points of agreement in order to stop a fourth wave of the disease.
It was senator Geovanna del Carmen Bañuelos de la Torre, from the parliamentary group of the Labor Party (PT), who proposed a series of points of agreement to prevent the arrival or, in that case, the expansion of the Ómicron variant in Mexico.
The foregoing, after the public official assured on Saturday, "61 passengers, from two flights from South Africa to the Netherlands, were infected with the coronavirus."
However, so far it is medically unknown if any of them carried the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The points of agreement begin with a strict application of the sanitary protocols in all the airports of the Republic, with the aim of identifying in a timely manner the arrival of infected travelers.
For this, special emphasis was placed on the acquisition of mandatory travel insurance that includes COVID-19 protection, only for foreigners who do not have a current residence in Mexico.
“The Senate of the Republic respectfully exhorts the Government of Mexico to continue coordinated efforts to strengthen and strictly apply sanitary protocols at all airports through the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation. and entry points of the national territory to prevent the arrival of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to Mexico; and so that the relevance of implementing as a requirement to enter the country the acquisition of Covid-19 health insurance for non-resident foreigners entering the country is evaluated, ”she said.
